e1/e2 Diagram

Basis: EN 1993-1-8 bearing resistance for a single bolt treated as an end/edge bolt.
ULS shear e1 e2 ULS shear c4 L d0 e3

e1 is measured parallel to the load direction. e2 is measured perpendicular to the load direction.

Visible Limitations

  • This draft treats the checked bolt as a single end/edge bolt for facade-style one-bolt bearing checks.
  • For bolt groups, calculate the design shear action on the checked bolt separately and enter it here.
  • Oversized holes use 0.80 times the normal-hole bearing resistance.
  • Slotted holes use 0.60 times the normal-hole bearing resistance where the slot axis is perpendicular to load.
  • For slotted holes, this tool takes c4 as the clear distance to the slot end and calculates e4 = c4 + d0 / 2.
  • For countersunk bolts, bearing resistance is based on connected plate thickness minus half the countersink depth.
  • Net-section resistance, bolt shear resistance, tension interaction, and full connection behaviour may still require separate checks.
This calculation is provided for preliminary guidance only. VitraLab does not certify or approve the final design. All structural designs must be reviewed and approved by a qualified engineer before manufacture, installation, or use.
